Dear fellow writers,

Some moments in life seem small at first, but looking back, they feel like guideposts—quietly pointing us toward where we’re meant to be. Starting Mailbox Memories is one of those moments for me. Though the business was officially organized in 2024, and the website launched in 2025, the real beginning happened long ago, in handwritten letters, mailboxes, and the joy oF connection.

When I was younger, writing letters was how I kept in touch with family. We didn’t live close—so I wrote. I sent letters to family in Idaho and to my grandparents in Utah. I still write to my grandmother today—who, by the way, is turning 100 next month! She’s often expressed how much joy it brings her to open the mailbox and find a handwritten letter.

On one particular family trip, I discovered postcards—and I was instantly intrigued. They were such a clever little thing! A beautiful picture on the front, no envelope needed, and just enough room to say something simple but meaningful. I started collecting them: some were funny, some were stunning, and others just made me want live an adventure. I loved the images so much that I didn’t end up sending them—I just held on to them.

It wasn’t until years later, after college, that I started to put Ink to those postcards and sending them on the road to their own destined mailbox.

Over the years, I kept writing—to family, to friends from high school and college. My sister, who’s always had a gift for thoughtful gestures, would send handwritten birthday letters, and I saw how much it meant to people. A letter, even a small one, has a way of saying “I’m thinking of you” that a text just can’t quite replicate.

I’ve had fun with it, too—sending messages in Morse code, starting doodle games where we’d guess shared memories from little sketches, even hiding secret “ninjas” in the words. Writing became not just an expression, but a connection, a way to build shared joy.

That’s where the heart of Mailbox Memories comes from: connection, creativity, and joy in small moments.

For a long time, I dreamed about starting something that would bring people together in that way—something that would help others experience the delight of receiving a personal, meaningful letter. I wanted to help create lasting memories through the mail, not just products. How could i do this in my own way?

I kept coming back to what I love—art, Moments, and Connection. I decided to combine those with the heart behind letters and postcards. With encouragement from family and friends I picked up my brushes and started painting. One by one, I created twelve watercolor scenes inspired by national parks. It took me a year to finish that first set. But I didn’t stop—I kept painting, and soon, I had four complete postcard sets. This is where I am beginning.

This blog, this website, this project, and these postcards—Mailbox Memories—is my way of sharing the joy of writing letters with you. One postcard and story at a time.

Thank you for your supprot and encouragement.

Yours in ink, Catherine
